Koreans, when referring to a woman with a child or children, often call her by the older child's name followed by the word "awma" (Korean for "mother"). Thus, the mother of Su Jin and Su Kyung is called: Su Jin awma.
Korean children are expected to spend a lot of time studying even when school isn't in session. But this summer, Su Jin awma wanted to give her daughters a taste of the wider world. She thinks that experiencing other cultures and their citizens is a critical part of the learning experience.
She booked a tour through a Korean travel agency that included stops in Toronto, Boston, New York, and Washington. Since her sister lives in the Boston area, she made arrangements for herself and her daughters to go to Boston at the end of tour and spend a week with her sister and brother-in-law.
Because she owns her own accounting business, she was able to take off two weeks for the trip. Unfortunately, her husband, who works for a company, didn't have that luxury and was unable to accompany them.
It was after she came to her sister's that we first met her and her daughters. As is evident from the pictures on this page she is beautiful. But she also turned out to be as wonderful a person as she is beautiful. And from the impeccable manners displayed at all times by her daughters, it's obvious that she is an extraordinary mother.
